Plain and simple, Gran Turismo 6 has that clout to just release a title and say, “Hey, here’s the new one! Enjoy,” and people will be at the ready when it is released.

It is a game that fans of the series will love. Is Gran Turismo 6 a horrible game? Absolutely not. In fact, it’s so good that even its minor annoyances can’t hold it back from negating the generational.

I know other racers have done this, quite well in fact, so it pains me to see there are still these types of issues when talking about one of the biggest racing franchises in gaming. Gran Turismo 6 delivers the racer we always knew the PS3 and Polyphony were capable of. I would have thought that by now we’ve come so far as an industry that we’d be able to have some realistic damage both visually, and to the areas of a car we don’t see automatically. I mean sure, you lose some time, but there’s nothing after that.
You back up or turn the wheels on the car until you are no longer having a make out session with the wall. It is somewhat amusing at first when you go flying into a wall at 340 mph and you get a solid “thunk.” That’s it. While there are some options in the online multiplayer, albeit only a few of them, there’s nothing really in the single player mode. Maybe it is to create the ambiance of the genre, but I don’t think anyone would mind adding a bit of variety.Īnother fault/annoyance, is the absence of damage to the vehicles. Unfortunately, Gran Turismo 6’s soundtrack leaves plenty to be desired as well. It’s when you have several races back to back to back that it becomes an issue, and one that most will want to drown out. Suffice to say, the wheezing whine of the engines is not horrid in small doses. After spending time with several other racers this generation, the low roars purring from the engines are far more pleasing than bumblebees in a hair net on Sloppy Joe day.

Sonys simulation racer is among the PS3 games set to be taken offline at the end of May. I took a stance against anyone that said it was faulty and no longer represented the soundscape of a racing game. Gran Turismo 5s pre-online shutdown event unlocks Gran Turismo 6 cars. I used to love the soundscape of Gran Turismo. it's Wii-bad.Unfortunately, the steps made to improve the franchise can still be hindered by some things not yet ready to advance: sound design, for example. Majority of the track and environment are cast in a static dark hue to represent a shadow overcast, except there's no actual shadows. You'll also notice that there is no shadow casting or dynamic lights on the ground in Gran Turismo 6, it's basically all one light map.Īdditionally, Forza 5 may have been hammered for having more pre-baked shadows than KB Toy Store's stock of Easy Bake Ovens from back in the 1980s, but Gran Turismo 6 doesn't even have that. In GT6 we also see the blotted spotlight moving across the track from time to time, which is supposed to be the sun reflecting on the track, but the limited light sources in the reflection just makes it look cheap when compared to the cloudy (but equally static) backgrounds in Forza 5. Forza 5 rectifies the mistake of GT6 by having crowd members filling out the track-side stands, but they show about as much 3D depth as a Mario Kart stage from the SNES. Gran Turismo 6 also tries to avoid the pitfall of tanking in performance by removing some crowd members and any unnecessary track accoutrements to maintain a steady frame rate. With a massive car list, an impressive track-list and a good selection of. While Forza 5 is still miles behind the alpha builds of Project CARS, visually, it does surpass the PS3's Gran Turismo 6 with flying colors by having a greater density of on-screen objects within the environment, as well as a higher density of polygons in those objects as well. Gran Turismo 6 is the best ever Gran Turismo, with graphics and physics that push the PS3 to its very limits. This here is so obvious that it's almost embarrassing. One of the other big differences is in the environmental detail.
